Cal State Fullerton Sweeps Weekly Honors For First Time Since 2014

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Senior • Fullerton, Calif.

•  Cal State Fullerton’s Jorge Sanchez took home his first Big West Conference Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors due to his performance in the 5-mile over the weekend.

• Sanchez is the first Titan to bring the award back to Fullerton since Jose Penaloza on Sept. 22, 2015.

• Sanchez finished in the 35th spot at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational where he competed against top teams like Auburn, Kansas State, LSU, Stephen F. Austin and Utah Valley.

• The Fullerton native led his team to 14th in the Men’s Gold Race, covering the Burke Golf Course with a time of 25:13.05.

SAMANTHA HUERTA, CAL STATE FULLERTON
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Senior • La Mirada, Calif.

 • Cal State Fullerton’s Samantha Huerta earned her second career Big West Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week award after receiving her first honor almost a year ago to date.

• The Titan led her team to victory at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational against competitive runners from schools such as Clemson, Western Michigan and Wyoming.

• Huerta finished the 5K race in 12th place with a time of 17:23.94.

• The senior runner aided CSF’s first place win as the team finished with 131 points in the Women’s Gold Race.
