Three Schools Recognized On Men's Soccer Weekly Honor Roll

MEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

• Earning his second Big West Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award this season, UC Irvine junior Christian Gutierrez helped his squad clinch a home Big West Tournament match.

• Gutierrez produced his second two-goal game of the season in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Cal Poly. He now owns the team lead with six goals.

• The win kept the Anteaters tied for first place with UC Davis and ensured UCI no worse than a top three finish in the standings and a guaranteed home match in the Big West Tournament opener.

• Gutierrez, who also scored twice on Oct. 3 at Loyola Marymount, notched his goals in the 36th and 78th minutes as part of a seven-shot performance against the Mustangs.

BEN ROACH, UC SANTA BARBARA
MEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

• Sophomore Ben Roach helped UC Santa Barbara pick up two important points in the conference race as he garnered his second Big West Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award.

• The goalkeeper allowed just one score in 220 minutes of action as the Gauchos forged a pair of double overtime ties on the road against UC Davis (1-1) and CSUN (0-0).

• Roach made a total of 13 saves for the week, including a season-high nine in Wednesday’s draw at UC Davis. He added four more stops at CSUN to record his conference-high eighth shutout of the season.

• The Santa Barbara native posted a 0.41 goals against average and .929 save percentage. The only goal he allowed was an own goal off of a corner kick.

MEN'S SOCCER FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

• CSUN goalkeeper David Preys kept his team’s postseason tournament hopes alive with outstanding play in net, collecting his first Big West Men’s Soccer Freshman of the Week honor.

• Preys allowed just one goal in 189:49 minutes of action as the Matadors tied UC Riverside (1-1) and No. 18 UC Santa Barbara (0-0).

• He stopped three shots against the Highlanders and two more against the Gauchos. He recorded a 0.47 goals against average and .833 save percentage for the week.
