Krasnov, Elpusan Secure Weekly Tennis Honors

UC Irvine junior Sasha Kraznov and UC Riverside freshman Tia Elpusan did not lose either a singles or doubles match en route to Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.

Kraznov Posts 4-0 Record in Singles

UC Irvine junior Sasha Krasnov notched his first career Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honor after finishing 4-0 in singles.

Krasnov won all four of his singles matches at the No. 2 position as the Anteaters finished 5-0 for the week.  He had one unfinished match against an opponent from Yale.

He knocked off Idaho’s Mark Kovacs, Lehigh’s Jacob Edelchik, Gonzaga’s Vincent Rettke and Liberty’s Eddie Gutierrez.  Three of the four wins came in three sets.  He overcame a first set deficit against Rettke to collect a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 triumph.

Krasnov has won seven straight singles matches, primarily at No. 2.

Elpusan Wins First Career Honor

UC Riverside freshman Tia Elpusan captured her first career Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week award after going 6-0 between singles and doubles.

It is the second time this season that a Highlander has won the weekly honor.

Elpusan posted a 3-0 record at No. 2 singles.  She won twice in three sets, including a 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 decision against Southern Utah’s Zoe Tanti.  She also outlasted Bradley’s Malini Wijesinghe in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Elpusan helped the Highlanders to a 2-1 record for the week as they defeated Bradley (7-0) and Drake (4-3).  With partner Sara Khattab at No. 1 doubles, the duo went 3-0 against their opponents.
