UC Davis and UC Irvine won by identical 4-0 scores on Wednesday at Indian Wells Tennis Garden, punching their tickets to the Big West Men’s Tennis Championship semifinals.
Aggies Roll To Semis For Third Straight Year

Third-seeded UC Davis breezed to a 4-0 first round victory over No. 6 seed Hawai‘i as the Big West Men’s Tennis Championship began Wednesday at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
The Aggies earned a berth in the semifinals for the third straight year. UC Davis will face No. 2 seed Cal Poly on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. The Aggies are seeking their first trip to the tournament finals.
The Aggies posted wins at No. 2 and No. 1 doubles to take an early 1-0 lead in the match as Alec Adamson and Adam Levie clinched the point with a 6-1 win over Felix Albert and Marcel Chan. Eli Whittle and Brett Bacharach also were victorious at No. 2.
Everett Maltby notched a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles to give the Aggies a 2-0 lead, and James Wade followed shortly thereafter with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 2.
The match clincher came down to the No. 3 court, where Bacharach outlasted Chan 7-5 in the first set, before pulling away to a 6-1 win in the second.
UC Davis won its school Division I record 17th match, improving to 17-6 on the year.

Anteaters Advance With 4-0 Victory
UC Irvine – UC Riverside MT Box Score
No. 4 seed UC Irvine battled to a 4-0 win over No. 5 seed UC Riverside in the first round of the Big West Men’s Tennis Championship Wednesday at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
The Anteaters moved to 17-8 on the year, while the Highlanders finished their campaign at 13-14, the 13 wins representing a school Division I record.
UCI won in straight sets at Nos. 1, 2 and 6 in singles to grab the win. Jonathan Hammel posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 over Anderson Ju, followed by Luca Marquard’s 6-4, 6-3 triumph at No. 2 over Sean Yun.
Nico Martens scrapped out a first set tiebreak win against Julian Ruffin and finished with a 7-6 (2), 6-1 decision over the Highlanders’ No. 1 player.
The duo of Tyler Pham and Hammel put the Anteaters on the board with their clinching win at No. 2 doubles. Caryl Hernandez and Martens defeated Kyle McCann and Hans Baumstark at No. 3 doubles first.
