Cal Poly – UC Riverside WT Box Score

Earning victories at the bottom three singles positions, No. 8 seed Cal Poly toppled No. 9 seed UC Riverside, 4-0, in a first round matchup to kick off the 2016 Big West Women’s Tennis Championship at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

The Mustangs (4-15) earned the early 1-0 lead by capturing the doubles point.  Abby Bacharach and Molly Reed won 6-0 at No. 3, and Zoe Oedekerk and Dane Joubert followed suit at No. 1, knocking off the Highlander combo of Karla Dulay and Tamilla Vaksman, 6-3.

Cal Poly continued its success in singles with successive victories at the lower three spots on the ladder.  Joubert was off the court first, defeating Natalie Penner, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5.  Molly Reed enjoyed a 6-0, 6-4 triumph at No. 6 over Vaksman.

The clincher came at No. 4 where Abby Bacharach earned a straight sets win against Caroline Hall, taking the match by scores of 6-4, 6-3.

The Mustangs advance to Thursday’s quarterfinals against top-seeded Long Beach State at 8:00 a.m.
