Kevin Feucht produced the key goals and James Del Curto tied an NCAA single-game high for saves to collect this week's men's soccer honors.
Feucht Contributes Clutch Goals
Junior Kevin Feucht (Schwetzingen, Germany/Hebel-Gymnasium Schwetzingen) produced two critical goals for UC Santa Barbara en route to garnering Big West Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors.
The goals were Feucht’s conference-leading seventh and eighth goals of the year. He has scored a goal in five straight games, one of just six Gauchos ever to manage the feat – alongside teammate Nick DePuy who did so last year.
With the Gauchos down to 10 men and trailing 2-1 in the 87th minute against UC Riverside, Feucht stepped up and drilled a free kick from 30 yards out into the top left corner of the net. UCSB settled for the 2-2, double overtime tie.
Feucht notched the game-winning goal in overtime of Saturday’s 2-1 triumph at Cal State Fullerton. The golden goal snapped a six-match winless streak for UCSB, and came at the 91:19 mark when he headed in a bouncing ball past the Titan netminder.
Others nominated: Nicolo D’Amato (Cal State Fullerton); Juan Samayoa (CSUN); Trevor Jackson (Sacramento State); Noah Wilson (UC Davis); Luis Leon (UC Irvine); Romario Lomeli (UC Riverside)
Del Curto Ties NCAA Single-Game Best For Saves
Matching the NCAA Division I high for single-game saves in a conference-opening road victory, Sacramento State junior James Del Curto (Santa Rosa, Calif./Cardinal Newman HS) secured Big West Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Del Curto made 14 saves to help the Hornets knock off UC Irvine, 2-1, to kick off league play on Thursday. He notched eight saves in the first half and six in the second half to tie his career high, also set last year in a win over UCI.
The Hornets allowed just two shots on goal in Saturday’s 1-0 loss to CSUN.
Others nominated: David Elias (Cal State Fullerton); Patrick Hickman (CSUN); Thomas Janjigian (UC Irvine)
