2015 ESPN College Hoops Tip Off Marathon Release

Big West members Long Beach State and Hawai‘i will host opponents during the eighth annual ESPN College Hoops Tip Off Marathon on Tuesday, November 17.

The Marathon showcases more than 24 consecutive hours of live programming across ESPN platforms, highlighting top coast-to-coast battles in a celebration to the start of college basketball season.  Sixteen men’s and women’s games will comprise the action on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU, culminating with the fifth annual State Farm Champions Classic from the United Center in Chicago, pitting preseason-ranked No. 3 Kentucky vs. No. 6 Duke and No. 5 Kansas vs. No. 19 Michigan State.

ESPN2’s Marathon schedule will include 10 games tipping off about every two hours beginning Monday with a quadruple header at 5:30 p.m. featuring three-time defending national champion Connecticut women.  ESPN’s schedule of five consecutive games starts at 1 p.m. on Tuesday and concludes with the State Farm Champions Classic.  ESPN2 will also televise a Tuesday men’s primetime game featuring top-ranked Maryland at 9 p.m.

Having competed in all seven previous Tip Off Marathons (4-3 all-time), Hawai‘i will host Nevada in the final game of the Rainbow Classic at 4:00 a.m. (ET) on ESPN2.  The game actually will begin in Honolulu on Monday, November 16 at 11:00 p.m. (HT).  UH has posted back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since the 1996-97 and 1997-98 squads.  Senior Roderick Bobbitt, who topped the nation in steals with 100 last year, leads a veteran-laden UH roster.

Long Beach State is the fifth current (or former) Big West school to be included in the Marathon.  Previous participants include CSUN playing at Hawai‘i in 2011, Pacific traveling to UCLA in 2010, and Cal State Fullerton also appearing on the Pauley Pavilion floor in 2009.

The 49ers will make their Marathon debut on the Walter Pyramid hardwood against BYU at 1:45 a.m. (ET) on ESPN2.  The game will tip at 10:45 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16 in the Pacific time zone.  The winningest head coach in school history, Dan Monson, has the 49ers once again playing one of the nation’s toughest non-conference schedules, a slate that also features Oklahoma State, UCLA, Arizona and Duke.

All telecasts will also be available through WatchESPN, accessible online at WatchESPN.com, on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app, and streamed on televisions through Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Xbox 360 or Xbox One to fans who receive their video subscription from an affiliated provider.
