Glover Helps CSUN To Series Sweep Of Cal Poly

CSUN sophomore Taylor Glover (Los Angeles, Calif./Mira Costa HS) spearheaded her team’s first series sweep over Cal Poly since 2004 to capture Big West Softball Field Player of the Week accolades.

Glover batted .571 (8-for-14) in four games, including .667 (6-for-9) in the Cal Poly series.  She collected a double, triple and home run as she finished with a 1.000 slugging percentage.

The outfielder posted a double, walk and two stolen bases to go along with a pair of runs scored in a 3-0 victory in Saturday’s first game of a doubleheader.  In the second game of the twinbill, Glover went 2-for-3 with a homer and her third stolen base of the afternoon.  Her fifth inning bomb proved to be the game clincher in the 3-1 triumph.

Glover finished the series with three hits, including a triple, and drove in two as the Matadors sealed the sweep with a 7-5 victory.  Her three-bagger was the 11th of her career, placing her third in school annals.  Her three steals gave her 24 for the season, which ranks as the fourth-highest total in CSUN history.

Others nominated:
Eliza Crawford (Cal State Fullerton); Shayna Kimbrough (Long Beach State); Taylor Wright (UC Riverside); Meshalon Moore (UC Santa Barbara); Rachel Lack (Hawai‘i)

Clermont Notches Pair Of Complete Game Shutouts

Sophomore Christina Clermont (Carlsbad, Calif./Syracuse) accounted for both Long Beach State wins as she tossed two complete game shutouts in garnering Big West Softball Pitcher of the Week recognition.

In her first appearance, Clermont fanned 10 UC Davis hitters in a 1-0 victory.  She scattered five hits and walked just two as the 49ers were able to scratch out a run in the bottom of the seventh to make Clermont the winner.

The transfer from Syracuse returned on Sunday for the rubber game of the series, and this time her offense backed her with plenty of support as she went the distance for the second time that weekend.  Clermont yielded five hits, walked two and struck out three as the 49ers earned an 8-0, five-inning run-rule victory over the Aggies.

Clermont has struck out 111 batters in 100.2 innings pitched this season.

Others nominated: Brianna Elder (CSUN); Chelsea Ponce (UC Riverside); Kanani Aina Cabrales (Hawai‘i)
