Cal Poly Produces Clean Sweep of Women's Volleyball Awards

A 3-0 record at the inaugural Cal Poly ShareSLO Tournament netted Big West Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week, Freshman Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week honors for the Mustang trio of Raeann Greisen, Taylor Nelson and Nicole Kessler.

Greisen Hits .435 In Three Victories

Cal Poly freshman Raeann Greisen (San Diego, Calif./The Bishop’s School) earned Big West Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week honors after hitting .435 in victories over CSU Bakersfield, San Jose State and Sacramento State.

The 6-2 outside hitter averaged a team-leading 4.40 kills, 2.20 digs and 0.80 blocks per set while her four service aces finished second among team members.

Greisen’s 17 kills against Bakersfield represented the second highest single-match total in her career, and she hit .571 with just a single error against the Roadrunners.  She also swung at a .464 clip with 15 kills and just two errors in the sweep of the Hornets.  Greisen produced a double-double in the Bakersfield match with 10 digs.  She was named to the ShareSLO All-Tournament Team for her efforts.

Freshman Nelson Leads Cal Poly

Cal Poly setter Taylor Nelson (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay HS) garnered Big West Women’s Volleyball Freshman Player of the Week recognition with her solid all-around performance at the ShareSLO Tournament.

Nelson finished second in the lineup with 2.70 kills per set and directed Cal Poly’s offense with 6.40 assists per set.  She also chipped in with averages of 0.30 service aces, 1.70 digs and 0.40 blocks.

In a four-game win over CSU Bakersfield, Nelson hammered 13 kills with just four errors in 26 attempts (.346) while handing out 27 assists.  She added eight kills to go along with six digs and 17 assists in a sweep of San Jose State.

Nelson earned a spot on the ShareSLO All-Tournament Team.

Kessler Selected MVP of Cal Poly ShareSLO Tournament

Cal Poly junior libero Nicole Kessler (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry HS) received Most Valuable Player acclaim for her performance at the Cal PolyShareSLO Tournament, and added to her awards haul with Big West Women’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors.

She led the Mustang defensive effort with 5.10 digs per set as the team finished the tournament 3-0.  Kessler also served up three service aces.

Kessler’s top effort came in a three-set triumph over Sacramento State as she scooped up 22 digs, the second highest total of the season.  She followed that up with 15 digs against CSU Bakersfield and 14 versus San Jose State.
