Pham, Heneghan Claim Tennis Weekly Honors

altUC Irvine sophomore Tyler Pham and UC Davis senior Megan Heneghan garnered Big West Men's and Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors as both won three of their four matches.

Pham Wins Twice In Straight Sets

UC Irvine sophomore Tyler Pham (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo HS) notched Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors as he helped the Anteaters to a pair of non-conference victories.

Pham won a pair of straight set singles matches at the No. 2 position.  He knocked off Jonathan Raude of Boston College, 6-1, 6-2, as the ‘Eaters romped to the 6-1 victory.  Pham returned against UNLV’s Tamas Batyi and registered a 6-3, 6-4 victory, helping UCI defeat the Rebels, 5-2.

In doubles, Pham and partner Jonathan Hammel split matches at No. 2.  The duo helped UCI clinch the doubles point against Boston College with their 8-1 win.

Heneghan Helps UC Davis To Conference Split

Senior Megan Heneghan (Tustin, Calif./Beckman HS) won three of four matches played to help UC Davis split a pair of conference contests, earning her Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.

Heneghan recovered from her 7-5, 6-1 loss to April Scatliffe of UC Santa Barbara in Saturday’s 6-1 loss, rebounding with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at No. 1 singles against Cal Poly’s Jen Cornea.  The win was crucial in giving the Aggies a 4-2 win over the Mustangs. 

She also teamed with Melissa Kobayakawa for two doubles victories at No. 2, including an 8-7 nailbiter versus CP’s Kathryn Webb and Mika Padmanabhan
