Zboralske, Hyland Selected For Softball Weekly Awards

altUC Davis sophomore Kelly Zboralske displayed the power and Cal Poly freshman Sierra Hyland overpowered opposing bats, claiming Big West Softball Field Player and Pitcher of the Week accolades, respectively.

Zboralske Slugs 1.000 At Stanford Louisville Slugger Classic

UC Davis sophomore Kelly Zboralske (Orangevale, Calif./St. Francis HS) drove in five of her team’s 11 runs and cranked out five extra base hits to earn Big West Softball Field Player of the Week accolades.

The utility player hit 7-for-14 (.500) with four doubles, one home run and five RBI as the Aggies posted a 2-2 record at the tournament.

Zboralske posted three multi-hit games, including a 2-for-4 performance with a double in the opener against Sacramento State.  Her next three hits against North Dakota State and Portland State were all doubles, giving her a league-leading seven on the season.

In a 4-2 win against the Bison, Zboralske smacked two doubles and had three RBI.  She provided another run-scoring double in a 4-3 triumph against Portland State.  To finish out the tournament, Zboralske went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a team-high fifth home run in a narrow 3-2 loss to No. 22/17 Stanford.  Her solo shot tied the game at 2-2 and nearly forced a second straight extra-inning game for the Aggies.

Hyland Posts 6-0 Record At Mustang Classic

Cal Poly freshman Sierra Hyland (Visalia, Calif./El Diamante HS) was the winning pitcher in all six Mustang Classic appearances and posted a 0.56 ERA to earn Big West Softball Pitcher of the Week honors.

Hyland struck out 45 batters in 37.1 innings pitched and twirled consecutive one-hit shutouts against Stony Brook and Fairleigh Dickinson.  She equalled a career high with 12 strikeouts in a 3-2 win versus Santa Clara and fanned 11 more against Sacramento State.  She whiffed nine Stony Brook hitters in the tournament-opening 7-0 rout of Stony Brook.

For the week, Hyland allowed just 16 hits, three earned runs and seven walks in her 37-plus innings in the circle.
