The women’s volleyball weekly honors are spread out among UC Davis, Long Beach State and UC Irvine this week.
Squyres Captures Fourth Player of the Week Honor
For the fourth time during the 2014 season, UC Davis junior Kaylin Squyres (Rocklin, Calif./Whitney HS) was worthy of Big West Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week accolades as she led the Aggies offensively in a pair of wins.
Squyres averaged 5.71 kills, 3.29 digs and 0.71 blocks per set while hitting .268 (40-14-97) as UC Davis pinned losses on Cal State Fullerton (3-0) and UC Irvine (3-1).
She hit .424 with 16 kills on just two errors in 33 attempts in a sweep of the Titans. Squyres helped the Aggies to a four-set win over the Anteaters with 24 kills – missing her career high of 25 by one for the third time since setting it back on October 17. She added a team-leading 18 digs against UCI to secure her 18th double-double of the year, and her defensive effort helped UC Davis outperform the conference’s statistical leader in that category (77 to 71).
Squyres allowed only one ace in 31 receptions as one of the team’s primary passers. In addition, her 5.71 kills per set is the highest for any two-match stretch in her career.

All-Around Performance Nets Murray Third Freshman Nod
Recognized for the third time in the last five weeks, Long Beach State middle blocker Ashley Murray (Torrance, Calif./Bishop Montgomery HS) garnered Big West Women’s Volleyball Freshman Player of the Week honors with her solid play on both sides of the net.
Murray hit a robust .423 and averaged 1.83 blocks per set to help the 49ers post sweeps over conference foes Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara. LBSU won its 11th and 12th consecutive matches to remain unbeaten in the Big West at 12-0.
She tallied nine kills on .533 hitting and added four total blocks against the Mustangs. Murray chipped in five kills and seven blocks versus the Gauchos. In that match, she had four stuffs in the first set alone, including a solo putback that helped set the tone. LBSU’s top net protector at 1.22 blocks per set, Murray helped her side limit UCSB to .131 hitting.

Reed Shines Defensively For Titans
Cal State Fullerton sophomore Paige Reed (Vallejo, Calif./St. Patrick-St. Vincent HS) established a career-high in digs to earn Big West Women’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
The 5-10 outside hitter collected 19 digs in Saturday’s three-set win over UC Riverside. She notched 13 digs against UC Davis, and her 32 total digs over six sets gave Reed a 5.33 digs per set average.
Reid’s previous career high for digs was 18. She has now recorded double-digit scoops in eight consecutive contests.
