Wilson Helps Clinch Big West Tournament Berth For Titans

With nine goals in her last nine games, Cal State Fullerton junior Rebecca Wilson (Placentia, Calif./El Dorado HS) earned Big West Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors as she continued her scoring spree in a pair of wins over UC Irvine and UC Riverside.

Wilson produced two goals and an assist to help secure the Titans six crucial points in the Big West standings and a berth into the Big West Tournament.

In the 3-1 win against the Anteaters, Wilson assisted on the first goal in the 11th minute before providing an insurance goal nearly three minutes into the second half.

The forward netted the only goal of the match in Sunday’s 1-0 triumph versus the Highlanders.  Wilson punched home teammate Colleen Ortega’s cross from the right for her team-leading 10th strike, which ranks No. 2 in the Big West.  It was also Wilson’s third game-winning goal of the season.

Others nominated: Elise Krieghoff (Cal Poly); Ashley Gonzales (Long Beach State); Laura McGrail (UC Irvine); Lexi Poppoff (UC Davis)

Ortega’s Play Extends Fullerton Win Streak

Cal State Fullerton senior Colleen Ortega (Saugus, Calif./Saugus HS) captured Big West Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week accolades for her all-around work in two conference victories.

Ortega anchored the Titan defensive effort in holding UC Irvine and UC Riverside to a combined six shots on frame with the 3-1 and 1-0 victories extending the team’s winning streak to three games.

She also got involved offensively as her 32nd minute pass to Rebecca Wilson led to the only goal of the match in CSF’s 1-0 win over the Highlanders.  Later in the match, she saved what would have been the game-tying goal off the goal line in the 57th minute.

Others nominated:  Alyssa Giannetti (Cal Poly); Taylor Nelson (Long Beach State); Ana Marija Sola (UC Davis)
