UC Davis junior Kaylin Squyres and Long Beach State freshman Ashley Murray are the recipients of the Big West Women’s Volleyball weekly honors.
Squyres Posts Career High Kills And Digs Totals In Win
UC Davis junior Kaylin Squyres (Rocklin, Calif./Whitney HS) garnered Big West Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week honors after setting personal highs in kills and digs in a victorious road effort.
Squyres posted 25 kills and 20 digs to help the Aggies slip past Cal State Fullerton in five sets on Friday. She was the first Aggie to register a 20-20 match since Devon Damelio went 28 and 24 on Nov. 2, 2013 – coincidentally, against CSF.
The 25 kills eclipsed her previous career best by one, while the 20 digs bested her old personal record by six.
The 6-1 outside hitter returned Saturday night with a match-high 19 kills to go along with eight digs and three block assists in a loss to UC Irvine For the week, Squyres led the Aggies in kills (44), kills per set (5.50), total swings (109) and hitting percentage (.312), while her 3.50 digs per set was the highest on the squad besides the libero.

Murray Doubles Up Awards Following Sweep
Long Beach State middle blocker Ashley Murray (Torrance, Calif./Bishop Montgomery HS) double dipped as the Big West Women’s Volleyball Freshman and Defensive Player of the Week as she helped the 49ers to a conference road sweep of UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly.
Murray averaged 2.14 kills, 1.00 digs and 1.43 blocks per set while hitting an outstanding .407 (15-4-27) as the 49ers remained the Big West leaders at 6-0.
She notched five kills and five block assists while hitting .556 in Friday’s sweep of the Gauchos.
In a four-set triumph over the Mustangs, Murray had three solo stuffs and two block assists to give her 10 total blocks for the week. Additionally, she powered down 10 kills (on .333 hitting) and scooped up seven balls as LBSU won for the 11th time in its last 12 matches.
