Majam Blasts Four Home Runs During Record-Setting Week

Kelly Majam (Pine Valley, Calif./Mountain Empire HS) slammed four home runs and broke the school's career runs scored record in a productive showing at the Easton Desert Classic, as the Hawai’i senior collected Big West Softball Field Player of the Week honors.alt

The 5-3 center fielder notched four home runs for the week – one each in wins against San Jose State and No. 7 Oregon, and two in a loss to Nevada as UH posted a 3-3 record for the tournament.  She had three multi-hit and multi-RBI games, hit .421 (8-for-19) and slugged 1.053 to anchor the Rainbow Wahine offense.

Majam went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI in the tournament finale against the Wolf Pack.  With the three runs scored, Majam established a UH career record for runs scored with 188, surpassing the previous mark of 187 by All-American Tia Morenz (1995-98).

Entering the season, she already held UH career marks in home runs (now at 58) and walks (now at 128).

Majam, who scored at least one run in five of six games, amassed a team-high nine runs scored and added seven RBI.  She helped UH overcame an early deficit against Oregon with a two-run home run that led to a 6-5 victory over the ranked Ducks.

Majam led off the Nevada game with a home run and added another bomb later in the game.  It was the 13th time in her career that she led off the game with a homer and the fourth time she recorded multiple homers in a game.

Others nominated:  Mikayla Thielges (Cal State Northridge); Karli Sandoval (Long Beach State); Chandler Wagner (UC Davis); Keilani Jennings (UC Santa Barbara); Megan Foglesong (Pacific)

Armagost Combines For First Pacific No-Hitter Since 2001

Nikki Armagost (Andover, Kan./Andover Central HS) allowed just one earned run in 17.1 innings at the Miken Classic, including Pacific's first no-hitter since 2001, as she claimed Big West Softball Pitcher of the Week honors.alt

The 5-8 senior posted a 0.40 earned run average with a 3-0 record and 14 strikeouts for the week.

Combining with freshman Carly Mortensen in an 11-2, five inning victory against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, the two hurled Pacific's first no-hitter since 2001.  The Tigers allowed a pair of unearned runs during the contest.

Armagost made one other appearance at the Miken Classic, a solid relief effort that enabled the Tigers to overcome an early deficit and defeat Northern Colorado, 10-4.  The Bears had the bases loaded and three runs already across in the first inning, but Armagost emerged from the bullpen and escaped the jam.  She pitched 6.1 innings of relief, scattering five hits and striking out six.  The lone run Armagost gave up in the fifth inning was the first earned run relinquished by the Tigers' ace.

To start out the week, Armagost dealt a five-hit complete game shutout with five strikeouts in a 3-0 victory against rival Sacramento State.

Others nominated:  Chloe Wurst (Cal Poly); Shelly Tait (Cal State Northridge); Justine Vela (UC Davis); Kaia Parnaby (Hawai’i)
