Cal Poly sophomore Elise Krieghoff and Hawai‘i freshman Monk Berger snatched Big West Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors after both extending and establishing school records.

Krieghoff Continues Goal Scoring Onslaught

Sophomore Elise Krieghoff (Clovis, Calif./Buchanan HS) nabbed her fifth Big West Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award after adding to her single-season school record goals total in a pair of Cal Poly victories.

The forward notched her 17th and 18th goals of the season as the Mustangs defeated Cal State Fullerton (1-0) and UC Riverside (3-1) to improve to 5-1 in the Big West and take over sole possession of first place.  Krieghoff also co-leads the NCAA in goals with Jannelle Flaws of Illinois.

Krieghoff delivered her fifth game-winning goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute against the Titans, who set up the opportunity on a hand ball call.  It was the second converted penalty opportunity of her career.

On Sunday against the Highlanders, Krieghoff struck again as she deposited a nearly point-blank shot that glanced off the bottom of the crossbar and into the goal.

Her 18 goals rank third in Big West single-season history.  In addition, she owns the Big West record with her five Player of the Week awards and sits second all-time with six career.

Others nominated:  Nikki McCants (Cal State Fullerton); Mimi Rangel (Long Beach State); Ashley Edwards (UC Davis); Tiana Fujimoto (Hawai‘i)

Berger Establishes School Record For Shutouts

Hawai‘i freshman Monk Berger (Garden Grove, Calif./Mission Viejo HS) produced back-to-back road shutouts at UC Davis and Long Beach State to claim Big West Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors.

She made six saves, one off of her season high, to help the Rainbow Wahine post their first-ever Big West road win in eight tries.  Berger picked up her fifth shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over the Aggies.

Berger broke the school's shutout record previously held by three others, tallying her sixth clean sheet in a 0-0 double overtime draw with Long Beach State.  Berger tallied four saves, including two of the dramatic variety – helping force a missed 49er penally kick in the 69th minute and making a diving save to squelch an LBSU breakaway in overtime.

Berger ranks fourth in the Big West with a 1.01 goals against average and second in shutouts.

Others nominated: Jordan Ansara (Cal Poly); Lindsey Maricic (Cal State Fullerton); Kaci McCain (Long Beach State)
