Cal Poly Sweeps Cross Country Athlete of the Week Awards

Cal Poly secured a clean sweep of the initial Big West Cross Country Athlete of the Week awards with junior Chris Frias the men's honoree and freshman Laura Hollander the women's representative.

The Mustangs took on their rivals in the annual UC Santa Barbara Lagoon Open and won both meets.  The men came out on top with 23 points compared to 45 for the Gauchos, while the women eked out a close battle, 29 to 33.

Frias spearheaded Cal Poly's title effort with a second place finish in a time of 24:56 on the 8K course.  Four Mustang runners placed in the top five.

Hollander dominated the women's portion of the meet with a course record time of 16:42 on the 5K layout.  She outdistanced the second place finisher, teammate Daniella Moreno, by nearly a minute (17:37).
