Cal State Northridge seniors Stephanie Galarze and Cynthia Jacobo were named the Big West Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week as they helped the Matadors start out the 2012 campaign 2-0.
Galarze Nets Game-Winner In Win Over Pac-12 Opponent
Cal State Northridge senior Stephanie Galarze (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill HS) scored two goals in victories over Arizona State and San Diego to earn her Big West Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week accolades.
Galarze netted the game-winner in the 36th minute of CSUN's 1-0 triumph over Arizona State Friday. She took a cross and chipped it over the Sun Devil goalkeeper to cement the program's first win over a Pac-10/12 school since 2009.
On Sunday, the Matadors demolished 2011 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 participant San Diego with a dominating 3-0 performance and Galarze once again contributed. She topped off the evening with a 49th minute strike as she slid a shot into the lower right corner of the goal to stake the Matadors to a 3-0 lead. The result gave CSUN its first win in school history at Torero Stadium.
