With their second-consecutive sweep last week in conference play, the Pacific Tigers have gained the familiar position at the top of the standings after week three and Big West Player of the Week, Taylor Petty.  UC Santa Barbara went 5-0 last week to improve to a three-way tie for second (6-3) and Big West Pitcher of the Week recognition for Shelby Wisdom.

Petty Drives In Career Week

Petty produced a career week while helping the Tigers go 4-1 at home last week in a midweek split against Santa Clara and a conference sweep against visiting Cal State Fullerton.  Versus Fullerton, the Porter, Texas native went 6-for-9 with two doubles and her second career home run.

Defensively the starting right fielder threw a rocket to get the tying run out at the plate in game one against Fullerton followed by a pair of RBI in the bottom frame to start the rally for the Tigers, in a 7-2 finish over the Titans.

The sophomore drove in a career-high four runs in two of the three games, including the game-winning run as pinch hitter to break the 5-5 tie against Santa Clara in game one.

On the week Petty averaged .538 at the plate, with a .538 on base percentage and an .923 slugging percentage.  She went 7-for-13, with seven hits, nine RBI and two runs scored.

Others nominated: Mia Pagano (Cal State Northridge), JJ Wagoner (UC Davis), Lainey DePompa (UC Santa Barbara)

Five Wins For Wisdom

Freshman pitcher, Wisdom received her first weekly honors in the Big West with a stellar performance collecting all five of the Gauchos wins last week.  The Elk Grove, Calif. native pitched a total 18 innings on the week with three complete games pitched and two shutouts.

Against conference opponent UC Riverside, she pitched six shutout innings in the first game of the series (11-1) and came up one strikeout shy (11) of her career high in the game two, a 6-3 win over the Highlanders.

To go along with her performance in the circle, Wisdom finished with a .333 average at the plate for the week with a team-best five runs coupled with four RBI.

On the week the freshman allowed only five runs on five hits with 33 strikeouts, accumulating a 1.00 ERA in her five game showing.
