UC Davis sophomore Kyle Miller and Cal State Northridge senior Jennifer Sher were masterful in singles play, going a combined 4-0 for Big West Men's and Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, respectively.

Miller Knocks Off Opponent From No. 29 Fresno State

Kyle Miller notched a pair of singles victories to lead UC Davis in non-conference action and was selected the Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week.

In a narrow 4-3 team loss to Montana, Miller cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mikolaj Caruk.  He then picked up the Aggies’ only point in a 6-1 loss to No. 29 Fresno State, dusting himself off from a first set setback to polish off David Ayoun in three sets, 3-6, 7-6, 10-8.  Miller trailed 6-3, 5-2 in the second set, but saved a match point and came roaring back in the match.  He is now 8-8 on the year in dual singles contests.

Sher Defeats Two Conference Opponents

Jennifer Sher went undefeated in singles and doubles to help Cal State Northridge to a split against conference opponents, while earning her second Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honor of the 2012 season.

Sher earned straight set wins against her UC Davis and Pacific counterparts in No. 1 singles as the Matadors lost to the Aggies (5-2) and defeated the Tigers (5-2) on the road.  Sher captured a 6-2, 6-4 victory against UCD’s Megan Heneghan and downed Pacific’s Iveta Masarova by a 7-5, 6-3 score.  Sher has won seven of her last eight singles matches to improve to 12-5 on the year.

In No. 1 doubles, Sher teamed with Sabrina Man-Son-Hing to win twice on the week and extend their winning streak to six straight matches.  They knocked off the Aggie duo of Heneghan and Ellie Edles, 8-2.  Against the Tiger tandem of Julia Hansen and Masarova, they battled to a 9-7 victory.
