The quarterfinal round of the Big West Tournament saw the madness of March in full effect as three lower seeds scored road upsets to punch tickets to the semifinals at Honda Center. Top-seeded Cal Poly was the only higher seed to score a quarterfinal victory.
No. 5 Pacific, No. 6 UC Santa Barbara and No. 7 Long Beach State all triumphed over their homestanding opponents to advance. The Tigers downed No. 4 UC Davis, 59-51, the Gauchos defeated No. 3 UC Irvine, 61-51, and the 49ers recorded the biggest upset with a 57-52 victory over No. 2 Cal State Northridge. The Mustangs moved on with a 71-53 win over No. 8 Cal State Fullerton.
The Friday semifinal matchups are now set as No. 1 Cal Poly takes on No. 7 Long Beach State at 12:00 p.m., while No. 5 Pacific and No. 6 UC Santa Barbara will follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
