Matson and Patton Receive Weekly Honors

The Big West Player of the Week award goes to Nicole Matson of Pacific who collected her first pair of home runs in a single game against Delaware last week and the Big West Pitcher of the Week honor goes to Cal Poly’s Rebecca Patton, who got a pair of wins for the Mustangs in their 3-2 finish for the week.

Matson Hits It Out Of The Park

Senior Matson had one of her best career weeks as the Tigers hosted the Louisville Slugger Invitational.  Matson hit three home runs the first day of the tournament to drive in nine RBI for Pacific’s set of wins.  This is Matson’s first honor this season for Big West Player of the Week, while her third career award. 

In the game against Delaware, the Valencia native recorded her first pair of home runs in a single game, while also tallying a career-best five RBI against Sacramento State in the tournament opener.  The starting short stop went 5-for-11 in her five games played last week, averaging .455 at the plate.

Matson showed agression on the base paths with five stolen bases for the week, posting a .667 on-base perccentage, while scoring eight of Pacific’s runs on their home field.

Patton Collects 2-of-3 Wins for the Mustangs


Right-hander Patton pitched in three of the five contests for Cal Poly last week, collecting two of their three wins on the week. This is Patton’s first honor this season and fourth career recoginition as Big West Pitcher of the Week.

The Mustangs faced Charlotte opening up play at the San Diego Classic as Patton tossed a complete seven-inning contest for her third win of the season, 3-2.  Patton surrendered only one hit in the first five innings before the 49ers looked for a comeback adding three more hits and two runs in the sixth.  In her second win recorded this week, Patton pitched four innings allowing only four hits with three strikeouts against Nevada.

The hometown native of Northridge collected a 0.79 ERA over the week, pitching a total 17.2 innings allwoing only 15 hits while facing 75 batters.  She finished with 14 strikeouts and five walks, holding opponents to a .244 batting average.
