In a shortened week of play, the Gauchos continued to compete despite inclement weather for the designative player, Allison Taylor to be named Big West Player of the Week and Erin Jones-Wesley of Long Beach to take home Big West Pitcher of the Week recognition.

Taylor Designates Player of the Week

The Gauchos’ Taylor collected this week’s Big West Player of the Week recognition for her outstanding performance in a four-game appearance at the Gaucho Classic II last week.  This is Taylor’s first Big West Player of the week honor in her four years of play at UC Santa Barbara.

Taylor finished the week batting .417 with a .583 slugging percentage, while collecting a .417 on-base percentage.  In the first game against San Jose to close out the week, the designative player hit the game-winning run and tied the game for the Gauchos in the second game of the doubleheader on Sunday.

Over the week Taylor led the team in hits (5), doubles (2), RBI (4) and total bases (7).

Jones-Wesley Holds Long Beach Wins

The Alta Loma native, Jones-Wesley grabbed her third Big West Pitcher of the Week honor this week, while the ninth recognition in her two-years competing in Big West play.  The sophomore collected her eleventh win last week, continue to hold the only wins this season for the Long Beach State bullpen with a 11-9 record.

Jones-Wesley pitched her way to her third-consecutive shutout in a 1-0 win against Iowa, midweek last week.  She had a consecutive 24 scoreless-innings streak snapped in her outing against Harvard when they scored two runs, one earned, in the fourth inning for a 3-0 win over the 49ers.

The right-handed pitcher leads the conference in innings pitched (126.1), wins (11), tied for first in most starts (19) and ranks second in league-leading ERA (2.49).
