Big West Conference Commissioner Dennis Farrell today announced the 2012 fall sportsmanship team award winners for the sports of women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s cross country.
UC Riverside captured the honor for the second straight year in men’s cross country. Pacific and UC Irvine claimed the award for the first time in school history in women’s cross country and men’s soccer, respectively. New conference member Hawai’i was recognized in both women’s soccer and women’s volleyball.
The Sportsmanship Award is voted upon by the respective student-athletes in each of the Big West’s 16 championship sports.
Winning teams are honored with commemorative tee shirts.
“These programs have exemplified the ideals of the Sportsmanship Award with excellent conduct in competition,” said Farrell. “Sportsmanship is taken very seriously by the conference as a representation of how we want our student-athletes to be viewed by others. It is a source of great pride to have those ideals fulfilled.”
