Five Big West cross country athletes found their names listed among the best in the nation as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recognized 450 athletes that earned all-region awards for cross country in Division I. Athletes of member schools that finished in the top 25 individually at one of the nine regional sites earned the honor.

Cal Poly's David Cardona and UC Davis' Trevor Halsted recieved honors on the men's side following their success at the NCAA West Regional last week.  Cardona paced all Big West athletes, running a time of 30:10 in the 10K to nab 17th place, while Halsted followed close behind in 20th after registering a 30:12 mark.

On the women's side, Mustang Laura Hollander and Aggies Sarah Sumpter and Alycia Cridenbring earned all-region recognition.  Hollander, the Big West Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year, ran a time of 19:22 in the women’s 6K to place second at the NCAA West Regional.  The true freshman finished six seconds behind individual champion Jordan Hasay.

Sumpter was the second Big West athlete to cross the finish line, placing 13th with a time of 20:03.  The senior was followed by teammate Cridebring, who posted a time of 20:08 to grab 16th place.

Hollander closes out her freshman season at the NCAA Championships on Nov. 17 at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.
