Allison Whitson (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto HS) posted season-bests in leading UC Davis to road sweeps of Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara, earning her Big West Women's Volleyball Player of the Week recognition.
The senior averaged 6.50 kills, 2.50 digs and 0.33 aces per set, and hit .326 for the weekend as the Aggies improved to 15-13 overall and 9-6 in Big West contests.
Whitson connected at a season-high .472 (19-2-36) clip in the three-set triumph against the Mustangs, banging back-to-back kills to finish the 29-27 final set after the Aggies trailed 23-19. She added two service aces and four digs in the win.
UC Davis completed its first-ever sweep of the Gauchos behind another outstanding effort from Whitson. The outside hitter slammed 20 kills, the most by an Aggie in a three-set match since Kayla Varney matched that total early in 2007. She ramped up her effort late in the match with 10 kills in the clinching third set, including back-to-back putaways that sealed the 29-27 win.
Others nominated: Kayla Neto (Cal State Fullerton); Tara Roenicke (Long Beach State); Ashley Cox (UC Riverside); Jane Croson (Hawaii); Hannah Clancy (Pacific)
