A Luis Silva hat trick and a pair of André Grandt shutouts set up the UC Santa Barbara teammates for Big West Men's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week recognition.
Silva Records 25th Hat Trick In UC Santa Barbara History
Luis Silva (Los Angeles, Calif./Bishop Mora Salesian) recorded the 25th hat trick in UC Santa Barbara history to collect Big West Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Silva produced his first collegiate hat trick in the Gauchos’ 3-0 victory against San Diego on Friday. He scored in the 11th, 29th and 60th minutes, depositing three of his four shots on frame.
In UCSB’s 2-0 shutout of Sacramento State on Sunday, Silva was equally as dominant in controlling the ball and setting up opportunities for his teammates. He took four shots in the game, including two on goal. Silva’s efforts also earned him a spot on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.

Grandt Extends Consecutive Home Shutouts Streak To Four
UC Santa Barbara’s
André Grandt (Wolfsburg, Germany/Tyler JC) posted a pair of shutouts in goal to be named Big West Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Grandt amassed seven total saves to help the Gauchos topple San Diego (3-0) and Sacramento State (2-0) at home. The shutouts marked his Big West leading fourth and fifth of the season.
The junior now has recorded four consecutive shutouts at home and owns a streak of 399:02 straight minutes without allowing a goal on Meredith Field.
