Cal State Fullerton junior Ann Marie Tangorra and Cal Poly senior Brooke Gauvin turned in impressive performances – one with a hat trick, the other with double-digit saves against a ranked opponent – to garner Big West Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Hat Trick Tops Off Cal State Fullerton's Offensive Explosion
A hat trick from
Ann Marie Tangorra (Arcadia, Calif./Cal State Los Angeles) provided the muscle Cal State Fullerton needed to claim the UNM Nike Classic title, earning the junior Big West Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Tangorra had a foot in four of the seven goals the Titans scored in wins against host New Mexico (3-2 in ot) and North Texas (4-1). She assisted on CSF’s first goal to tie the score at 1-1 against the Lobos on Friday.
In Sunday’s triumph against North Texas, Tangorra erupted for her first three collegiate goals in a span of four minutes. She netted her first goal in the 28th minute, added another less than a minute later, and topped off the festivities with her third strike in the 32nd minute. Tangorra notched CSF’s first hat trick since Brianna Buffington accomplished the beat against UC Irvine in 2006.

Gauvin's 10 Saves Propel Cal Poly to 1-1 Tie Versus No. 9 Pepperdine
Solid goaltending from senior
Brooke Gauvin (Valencia, Calif./Valencia HS) helped Cal Poly forge a tie with a top 10 program and led to her selection as Big West Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Gauvin faced 22 shots and made 10 saves in the Mustangs’ 1-1 double overtime draw against No. 9 Pepperdine on Sunday.
She also made two saves in Cal Poly’s 4-1 victory against Nevada on Friday. For the week, Gauvin posted a 0.90 goals against average and an .857 save percentage.
