Sarah Carrasco of Long Beach State and Krista Cobb of UC Santa Barbara are this week's Big West softball weekly award recipients as Carrasco is the Player of the Week, while Cobb took home the Pitcher of the Week award.
Carrasco Leads LBSU Offense In Series Win Against Cal Poly
Sarah Carrasco was the catalyst for the Long Beach offense over the Easter weekend, resulting in Big West Player of the Week honors.
The freshman led the 49ers to a series win over Cal Poly, keeping the club in the thick of the Big West race.
She started the series with a 3-for-4 effort in game one, adding a RBI, scoring a run and walking twice in a 3-2 victory.
In game two, Carrasco had a pair of RBI and scored a run to lead the 49ers to a 7-1 victory. Although LBSU dropped game three 5-4 in eight innings, Carrasco continued her hot bat with two hits, a RBI a double and a run scored.
For the series, Carrasco batted .600 (6-10) with four RBI, three doubles and three runs scored.

Cobb Shuts Down CSUN To Help Gauchos To Series Win
UC Santa Barbara’s Krista Cobb was masterful on the mound in the squad’s series win over Cal State Northridge last weekend, netting her Big West Pitcher of the Week accolades.
The junior went 2-0 in three appearances over the weekend, starting two games and coming out in relief in another.
Cobb’s first start was a test of endurance as she went eight innings for the win in the series opener. She allowed nine hits, four runs (all earned), walked five and struck out six in a 5-4 victory.
After 2.1 innings of perfect relief in game two UCSB loss, Cobb came through with an excellent effort to win game three. She went seven innings and allowed just three hits, two runs (both unearned) and struck out three.
In all, Cobb posted a 1.62 ERA in her 17.1 innings of work and is now 6-1 with a save in Big West play.
