Cal Poly's Marco Comuzzo went unblemished in singles and doubles play, while Pacific's Kateryna Nezhura helped her team to a key conference victory as the two earned Big West Men's and Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week laurels.
Comuzzo Breezes To Three Straight-Set Singles Victories
Cal Poly’s Marco Comuzzo (Auckland, New Zealand) went unbeaten in singles and doubles play to capture Big West Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.
The freshman improved to 10-2 on the year in singles after defeating opponents from Oregon, Air Force and Hawai'i, all at the No. 5 position. He dispatched Oregon's Duncan MacDonald-Korth by a 7-5, 6-4 score, then rolled to a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Air Force's Steven Young. Comuzzo capped off the week by picking up the Mustangs' lone point against Hawai’i, knocking off Kmytro Kovalyov 6-2, 7-6.
Comuzzo competed in just one doubles match on the week, as he and partner Jordan Bridge outlasted Lance Wilhelm and Young by an 8-6 count.

Nezhura's Heroics Propel Pacific Past UC Irvine
Kateryna Nezhura (Kiev, Ukraine/Gymnasium No. 56) garnered Big West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors as she helped Pacific win a key conference match in the battle for supremacy in the standings.
Nezhura battled back from an early deficit to post a three-set victory against UC Irvine's Hannah Holladay. The senior won 2-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2 to give the Tigers a 4-3 team triumph against the Anteaters. Nezhura trailed 5-1 in the second set before mounting her miracle comeback.
The win improved Pacific's conference record to 2-1, keeping the program in contention for a conference title. Five of the Tigers' last seven contests are against Big West opponents.
