Last week's softball schedule was a soggy one, but Cal State Northridge's Jaci Carlsen and Long Beach State's Erin Jones-Wesley battled through the elements to claim Big West Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively.

Carlsen's White-Hot Bat Leads CSUN

Cal State Northridge second baseman Jaci Carlsen (Reno, Nev./Spanish Springs HS) had a scorching time at the plate during a soggy week, resulting in Big West Player of the Week honors.

The junior batted .619 (13-21) over her seven games last week, picking up at least one hit in six outings and multiple hits in four.

Her top showings were a 3-for-4 effort against Ohio, a 2-for-4 output against Ohio State and an amazing 4-for-4 game against San Diego.

Carlsen showed plenty of pop as well, hitting two home runs, knocking in five, picking up three doubles and a triple. She also scored six runs and stole three bases.

Carlsen's most impressive statistic was her plate discipline as she walked four times and did not strike out over 25 plate appearances.

Others nominated: Nalani St. Germain, Long Beach State; Nikki Armagost, Pacific

Jones-Wesley Earns Third Big West Weekly Pitching Honor Of 2011

Erin Jones-Wesley was stellar once again for Long Beach State last weekend as the freshman took home her third Pitcher of the Week honor.

Jones-Wesley went 2-0 with a 0.47 ERA in 15.0 innings. She started the week with an inning of scoreless relief against Texas, then picked up the win against DePaul in a starting role. She allowed just six hits, one run, one walk and struck out five over six innings of work.

Jones-Wesley then had another one-inning relief stint against a ranked opponent in Louisiana-Lafayette, again allowing no runs or hits. She wrapped up her weekend with an outstanding start against Illinois. Jones-Wesley gave up just one hit, walked five and struck out four in a complete-game gem.

Others nominated: Carly Wade, Cal State Northridge
