LBSU's Jones-Wesley, PAC's Moore Claim Softball Weekly Awards

Long Beach State's Erin Jones-Wesley and Pacific's Amy Moore led their respective clubs to wins over nationally-ranked clubs last weekend, earning them this week's edition of the Big West softball awards.

Jones-Wesley Claims Second Weekly Pitching Honor of 2011

Erin Jones-Wesley (Alta Loma, Calif./Los Osos HS) had another outstanding weekend in the circle for Long Beach State, netting her second Big West Pitcher of the Week honor in three weeks.

The true freshman started her weekend with a five-hit, one run (unearned), eight inning win over Utah. Jones-Wesley held the Utes scoreless through regulation, then allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth in a 5-1 win

She then picked up biggest win of her young career, a 2-1 victory over a top 10 club in Oklahoma. Jones-Wesley went all seven innings and allowed six hits, one run, walked two and struck out six.

Jones-Wesley wrapped up her big weekend by pitching well in a loss to nationally-ranked Oklahoma State. She picked six innings, allowed five runs and struck out six in a 5-3 loss.

Moore's Bat Leads Pacific to Perfect Weekend

Amy Moore (Valencia, Calif./Valencia HS) had a solid weekend at the plate in three wins for Pacific, earning Big West Field Player of the Week honors.

The sophomore catcher started the weekend with a 2-for-2 effort in an 11-1 win over Santa Clara. She homered, drove in two runs and scored twice in the victory.

In the following game against nationally-ranked Oregon, Moore had an RBI double in the sixth that gave the Tigers a lead they would not relinquish against the Ducks. To close things out against San Jose State, Moore went 2-for-3 with two more RBI, a double and a run scored in a 12-9 win for Pacific.

For the week, Moore his .625 (5-8) with a home run, six RBI, three runs scored and a pair of doubles.
