Sam Gould of UC Irvine and Megan Heneghan of UC Davis played key roles in helping their teams extend impressive winning streaks as the two earned Big West Men's and Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.

Gould Goes 3-0 In Singles, Records Winning Point at UNLV

Spectular singles play by Sam Gould (Hamilton, New Zealand/St. Kentigren College Prep) steered UC Irvine to a trio of solid victories, including a win over No. 57 Oklahoma State, giving the junior Big West Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.

Gould won all three matches at No. 2 singles as the Anteaters knocked off Oregon, UNLV and the Cowboys.  He breezed to a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Oregon’s Baptiste Faynot to start the week.  He then defeated No. 115-ranked Vlad Bondarenko of Oklahoma State by a 6-4, 6-2 score.  In UCI’s closest match of the week, a 4-3 nailbiter versus UNLV, Gould secured the clinching point with his 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 decision against Tamas Batyi.

The native of Hamilton, New Zealand has won six straight matches in singles play dating back to February 6th.

Heneghan Helps UC Davis To Best Conference Start Ever

Megan Heneghan (Tustin, Calif./Beckman HS) helped UC Davis improve to a 3-0 conference start in garnering Big West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week accolades.

Heneghan posted a 2-0 record at No. 1 singles as the Aggies captured conference road victories against Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Northridge.

The freshman won 6-1, 6-1 over Cal State Fullerton's Tiffany Mai and teamed with Kelly Chui to defeat the Titan duo of Mai and Monica Rodriguez in No. 1 doubles.  Heneghan outlasted Cal State Northridge's Brooke Doane 6-4, 6-4 to earn a key point in the Aggies' 5-2 victory over the Matadors.

The Aggies are off to their best Big West start since joining the conference for the 2007-08 season.
