For the second straight week, UC Davis claimed a sweep of the men's soccer weekly awards. Sophomores Kevin Schulte and Omar Zeenni were named Big West Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week primarily for their roles in a huge road win at No. 7 UC Irvine.
Schulte Scores Twice In Aggie Victory
A multi-goal performance from
Kevin Schulte (Riverside, Calif./Martin Luther King HS) gave UC Davis a much-needed road victory against No. 7 UC Irvine and earned the sophomore Big West Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week recognition.
Schulte scored both Aggie goals in a 2-1 overtime thriller over the Anteaters on Wednesday. He equalized for UCD on a 59th minute header, then struck again in the 98th minute on a give-and-go with John Joslin, depositing a shot from inside the box to the far post.
It was the second straight match that an Aggie scored multiple goals in a game. That win, coupled with UCD’s 2-1 triumph over Cal Poly, allowed the Aggies to move into a first place tie with UC Irvine.

Netminder Zeenni Anchors UC Davis Defense
Omar Zeenni (Arcadia, Calif./Crespi Carmelite HS) allowed just two goals in over 188 minutes between the pipes, helping UC Davis pull into a tie for first place in conference and garnering the sophomore Big West Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week acclaim.
Zeenni faced 14 shots and made four saves in UCD’s 2-1 overtime win at UC Irvine on Wednesday. He stopped another two shots in a 2-1 victory against Cal Poly on Saturday. For the week, Zeenni posted a 0.95 goals against average and .750 save percentage. He has led the Aggies to wins in five of the last six games.
