Sophomore Haleigh Hampton led Long Beach State to a 2-0 record on the road last week against Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara, which kept the 49ers atop the Big West standings. For her efforts, she received Big West Women's Volleyball Player of the Week honors for the second time this season. Her first award came just two weeks ago.
Leading the 49ers in kills in both matches, Hampton had 20 kills on .500 hitting against the Mustangs, and then finished with 19 the next night against the Gauchos on .267 hitting. The Huntington Beach, Calif., native also tallied three aces against the Mustangs, and finished with four overall in the two matches.
On the weekend, Hampton averaged 4.33 kills per set. The nation's top blocker also had 10 total blocks on the weekend, including four down the stretch in set four against Cal Poly to cap a 12-1 run that ended that set and forced a set five, which the 49ers eventually won.
Others nominated: Kristina Graven (Cal Poly), Casey Hinger (Cal State Northridge), Shaina Olsen (UC Irvine), Jennifer Sanders (Pacific).
