UC Riverside's Chad Hall received this week's Big West Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week award, while Long Beach State's Rosa Del Toro collected the Big West Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week accolade. This is Hall's third honor of the season and Del Toro's second.
Hall won his sixth-career meet and second of the season after posting a time of 23:48.0 in the Santa Clara University Bronco Invitational 8K last Saturday. The Big Bear, Calif., native beat out Cal Poly's Daniel Gonia by just six-hundredths of a second to win the event at Baylands Regional Park. As a team, the Highlanders scored 203 points to finish eighth out of 19 squads.
The Long Beach State women's team successfully defended its title at the Bronco Invitational last week with the help of Del Toro, who placed fourth with a personal-best time of 17:09.8 in the 5K. In the process, she broke the school record, set back in 2009, by five seconds. With the help of the Van Nuys, Calif., native, the 49ers finished ahead of five teams ranked in the USTFCCCA West Region Poll.
