UC Irvine's 2-0-0 record over the opening weekend of the 2010 season also produced a sweep of the first weekly honors of the season as Miguel Ibarra and Corey Attaway were recognized for their efforts.

Ibarra Turns In Impressive Debut Weekend for UCI

Miguel Ibarra had a hand in three UC Irvine goals during his debut weekend, netting him Big West Offensive Player of the Week honors.

The junior kicked off his Anteater career with a pair of assists in UCI's 4-0 season-opening win over Gonzaga.

Two days later, Ibarra assisted on the lone goal in UC Irvine's 1-0 win over Loyola Chicago.

Ibarra proved to be deft at finding any player for shots on goal as his three assists came on goals scored by UCI defenders.

Others nominated: Chris Gaschen, Cal Poly; Lance Patterson, UC Davis; Alex Racca, UC Riverside; Sam Garza, UC Santa Barbara

Attaway Leads Stifling Anteater Defense

Corey Attaway spearheaded a stout UC Irvine defense in a pair of Anteater wins last week, earning him Big West Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

The senior led a defense which allowed 12 shots over two games, none of which was registered on frame.

Over the two shutout wins over Gonzaga and Loyola Chicago, Attaway’s defense held the opposition to just four corner kicks and just four shots in the second half of each match.

Others nominated: Patrick McLain, Cal Poly; Tommy Siragusa,  UC Davis
