A 1-0 shutout of No. 19 Arizona State earned Long Beach State teammates Shawna Gordon and Emily Kingsborough the Big West Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week awards, respectively.

Gordon's 30-Yard Blast Helps LBSU To Third Win Over Ranked Opponent

Junior Shawna Gordon (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Los Osos HS) delivered the game-winning goal to lead Long Beach State to a 1-0 victory over No. 19 Arizona State, garnering her Big West Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Gordon lasered a shot from 30 yards out into an open net 33:21 into the contest.  It was Gordon’s second game-winning goal of the season.

She also helped the 49er defense control possession in the second half from her midfield position.  The win over the Sun Devils improved LBSU to 3-2 against ranked foes in 2010.

Kingsborough Collects Third Shutout, Makes Five Saves In Win

Emily Kingsborough (Santa Rosa, Calif./Ursuline HS) contributed to the Long Beach State resurgence in a meaningful way as the netminder posted a shutout against No. 19 Arizona State and earned Big West Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week accolades for the second time this season.

The 1-0 win over the Sun Devils improved the 49ers’ record to 7-3-1 and marked LBSU’s third win against a ranked opponent this season.

Kingsborough faced 11 shots in the contest and stopped all five that were on frame.  Her biggest save occurred at the 34:50 mark when she made a diving stop in a one-on-one situation to preserve LBSU’s 1-0 lead.  Kingsborough now has three shutouts in her junior campaign.
