Long Beach State's Haleigh Hampton and UC Davis' Betsy Sedlak were named Big West Volleyball Co-Players of the Week after a rousing display of their talents. This is the 49ers' second honor of the year with Caitlin Ledoux collecting weekly accolades the first week of the season. Sedlak nabs UC Davis' first honor of 2010.
In four matches on the road in Colorado, Hampton compiled a .379 hitting percentage. The freshman middle blocker opened the week hitting .526 in LBSU's sweep of Virginia Commonwealth. She followed that up with an impressive .517 hitting percentage in the 49ers' upset win over No. 14 Colorado State. In the five-set thriller, Hampton tied a team-high 18 kills and notched five total blocks.
Against Middle Tennessee State, Hampton just missed a double-double with nine kills and nine blocks. She closed out the week with a 13-kill, four-block performance in a 4-0 win at Denver. For the week, Hampton averaged 3.06 kills per set and 1.24 blocks per set.
Sedlak began the week with a team-best performance against Sacramento State. She recorded 13 kills, while hitting .545 and tallying seven blocks and a career-high five digs. In UC Davis' home tournament, the Aggies Invitational, UC Davis swept the competition with the help of Sedlak. In game one against Oregon State, she hit .333 with nine kills and three blocks. The junior middle blocker improved her hitting game against Nevada with a .462 clip before notching an explosive .733 hitting percentage against Portland in the final match of the tournament.
For the week, Sedlak averaged 2.6 kills and 1.33 block per set, while hitting .515 to earn Aggie Invitational MVP honors.
