Freshman outside hitter Kristina Graven guided Cal Poly to a perfect 4-0 week to earn Big West Women's Volleyball Player of the Week honors. She becomes the first Mustang to collect the conference's weekly accolade since Kylie Atherstone received the award on Sept. 22, 2008.
She opened the week leading the Mustangs to a sweep over Idaho with her third double-double of the season (12 kills, 11 digs). Her 12 kills during the match were a team high.
Graven also assisted in a 3-0 Mustangs performance at the Nike Cougar Challenge over the weekend, earning her tournament MVP honors. She notched two more double-doubles in the two-day event with 14 kills and 18 digs against Eastern Washington and 20 kills and 12 digs versus Washington State. In Cal Poly's 3-0 win over Montana State, she fell short of a double-double with 15 kills and four digs but did blast an error-free .556 hitting percentage.
The San Jose, Calif., native averaged 4.36 kills and 3.21 digs for the week, while hitting .379.
Others nominated: Torrie Brown (Cal State Fullerton), Janisa Johnson (Long Beach State), Betsy Sedlak (UC Davis), Shelby LeDuff (UC Riverside), Charlene DeHoog (UC Santa Barbara) and Hannah Clancy (Pacific).
