The final month of the Big West softball season started with a pair of award winning performances as UC Davis' Elizabeth Santana and UC Santa Barbara's Krista Cobb won the Big West Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively.

Santana Leads Aggies to First Place With Offensive Outburst

Elizabeth Santana powered UC Davis to first place in the league standings with a big offensive weekend, netting her Big West Player of the Week accolades.

The freshman collected at least one hit and scored a run in each of UCD’s four conference games last week.

In the doubleheader sweep over UC Riverside, Santana went 5-for-6 with three runs scored, two doubles and a pair of walks. This came after a two run, one hit performance in a pivotal win over Pacific two days earlier.

Santana also picked up two multi-hit games, including a three-hit showing in game one against the Highlanders, scored two runs in two of her four outings and did not have a strikeout over her 14 plate appearances over the week.

Others nominated: Karla Chapparo, Cal State Northridge; Alexis Villamor, UC Riverside; Jessica Ziegler, UC Santa Barbara; Megan Hom, Pacific

Cobb Delivers Herculean Effort in Sweep Over LBSU

UC Santa Barbara's Krista Cobb was a true workhorse for the Gauchos in their sweep over Long Beach State last weekend, resulting in Big West Pitcher of the Week honors.

Cobb started off the series with a complete game in UCSB’s 5-2 win. She allowed seven hits and two runs (both earned), and pitched her way around four walks with five strikeouts.

Cobb went right back out there for the start in game two and responded with a complete game in the 2-1 Gaucho win.  She allowed seven hits, one run, walked one and struck out a pair.

Cobb saved her best for last in a grueling 1-0 10-inning victory for UCSB. She pitched every inning of the showdown, allowing just six hits, one walk and striking out a pair.

Others nominated: Hannah Fraijo, Cal State Northridge; Dana Waldusky, UC Davis
