Freshmen Claim Big West Weekly Softball Honors

Freshmen is the theme of this week's Big West softball awards as Gabby Aragon of Cal State Fullerton and Rebecca Patton of Cal Poly won the Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Aragon Produces Career-Best Weekend for Titans

Gabby Aragon produced the best weekend of her young career for Cal State Fullerton, netting her  Big West Player of the Week accolades.

The freshman collected three multi-hit efforts in as many games against UC Davis, doubling her season total to date.

Aragon kicked off the series with a 4-for-7 showing in the doubleheader against the Aggies, adding two runs, a RBI and a triple to her ledger.

Her best game came in the Titans’ 6-3 win in the finale. Aragon went 3-for-3 with a homer, three RBI, two runs scored and a double, falling a triple shy of the cycle.

Entering the weekend with just a .156 average, Aragon batted .700 (7-10) during the series to up her season average to .255

Patton Claims Second Consecutive Weekly Pitching Award

Cal Poly's Rebecca Patton claimed her second consecutive Big West Pitcher of the Week honor after leading the Mustangs to a series win at Long Beach State.

The freshman won two of the three games against the 49ers over the weekend. Patton started the opener and delivered a complete game five-hitter. She allowed just one walk and struck out two in the 5-0 Cal Poly win.

After pitching two-thirds of a an inning in relief in game two, Patton came in out of the bullpen in the finale to earn the victory. She went 4.2 innings, allowed three hits, no runs, walked one and struck out one in the 6-2 victory.

For the series, Patton recorded a 0.00 ERA in 12.1 innings and allowed nine hits and two walks while striking out four.
