LBSU's Schallig, CP's Cahn Claim Big West Softball Honors

A weekend of stellar performances delivered softball weekly accolades to a pair of players as Christina Schallig of Long Beach State and Anna Cahn of Cal Poly won the Big West Player and Pitcher of the Week awards, respectively.

Schallig Powers LBSU to Series Win

Christina Schallig was an offensive dynamo in Long Beach State's conference series win over Cal State Northridge, garnering Big West Player of the Week status.

The transfer from California batted .400 (4-10) in the three-game set, adding four runs scored, four RBI and her first two home runs of the season.

Schallig opened the series with a solo homer, two runs scored and a walk in LBSU's 6-4 win.

Schallig saved her best game for the finale as she went 3-for-5 with a homer, three RBI and two runs scored in the 49ers’ extra-inning loss. The three hits and three RBI were both season highs for the junior.

Cahn Dominates UCSB for Third Weekly Pitching Honor of 2010

Cal Poly's Anna Cahn collected her third Big West Pitcher of the Week award after dominating UC Santa Barbara in two starts last weekend.

The junior started things against the Gauchos with a complete game two-hitter in the Mustangs' 5-0 game two victory. She struck out five and walked none in facing just two batters over minimum.

Cahn delivered a similar effort in the 5-0 Cal Poly win in the series finale. She allowed just four hits, struck out one and walked none in facing six batters over the minimum.
