Jacques Streeter (Los Angeles, Calif./Findlay Prep) made a highlight reel game-winning bucket to propel Cal State Fullerton to a key conference road victory and collect Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors.
Streeter scored 21 points and added five rebounds and six assists as the Titans squeezed out a 70-68 win against Cal Poly on Wednesday. Streeter provided late game heroics, hitting a three-pointer for a 66-65 Titan lead with 1:32 remaining.
With the score knotted at 68, Streeter dribbled the length of the floor in the final 5.2 seconds. He took off from behind the 3-point line and launched a bank shot from about 16 feet that went in at the buzzer. The shot appeared to be a three but was credited by the referees as a two-pointer.
Streeter's big shot put the Titans in sole possession of third place at 8-6 in Big West play, positioning them for a solid chance at least a quarterfinal bye in the conference tournament.
Streeter's offensive production, which included a 10 of 12 night at the free throw line, was crucial for the Titans but so was his defensive impact. He held Lorenzo Keeler to two second half points as the primary defender on the Mustangs' leading scorer.
Others nominated: David Hanson (Cal Poly); T.J. Robinson (Long Beach State); Mark Payne (UC Davis); Michael Hunter (UC Irvine); Sam Willard (Pacific)
