Orlando Johnson (Seaside, Calif./Loyola Marymount) spurred UC Santa Barbara to a pair of road victories to claim his second Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award this season.
The 6-5 guard averaged 20.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game as the Gauchos knocked off Cal State Fullerton (73-65) and Fresno State (64-60) to extend UCSB’s road winning streak to four.
The Gauchos also have won five in a row overall. Johnson, a transfer from Loyola Marymount, shot 53.6% (15 of 28) from the field, 57.1% (4 of 7) from three-point territory and 87.5% (7 of 8) at the free throw line to pace UCSB.
Against the Titans, Johnson scored 18 points to go along with eight rebounds and a blocked shot as the win put UCSB in sole possession of first place. He made 6 of 12 shots against CSF, including 2 of 4 from three-point land.
Johnson produced 23 points and four rebounds on 9 of 16 shooting as UCSB eked out the win at Fresno State on Saturday as part of the ESPN BracketBusters event. He canned 9 of 16 shots overall, including a pair of three-pointers.
The sophomore has scored in double figures in all 24 games this season, the longest streak by a Gaucho player since the 1996-97 season.
