Keeney Slugs UCR to Season-Opening Success
Brittany Keeney (Canyon Lake, Calif./Temescal Canyon HS) led UC Riverside to a pair of wins in its first weekend of the 2010 season, leading to Big West Field Player of the Week honors.
Keeney was a beast at the plate for the Highlanders over the weekend , batting .500 (7-14) with a homer, 11 RBI and a pair of doubles in four games.
In her season opener, she knocked in a pair of runs and followed that up with another RBI in her ensuing contest.
Keeney then led UCR to its first win of the season with a career-best five RBI effort. She also hit a homer and recorded a double. In her final game of the season-opening weekend, Keeney knocked in three more runs and hit another double.
Keeney recorded two hits in three of her four games last weekend and also posted an .857 slugging percentage.

Holmes Delivers as Starter and Reliever for UCD in Season-Opening Tourney
Alex Holmes (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./JSerra Catholic HS) put forth a strong effort in the circle for UC Davis in its opening weekend of the 2010 season, resulting in Big West Pitcher of the Week accolades.
Holmes was 2-0 for the Aggies at the SportCo Kick-Off Classic, registering an 0.93 ERA in 15.0 innings of work.
She started off her season with a win over Kent State, pitching all five innings of the mercy rule shortened game. She allowed just four hits, two runs (one earned), walked two and struck out eight.
Following a 4.1, two hit, one run, two strikeout relief appearance against host UNLV, Holmes picked up another win against Cal State Bakersfield. She went 5.2 innings and allowed hits, three runs (one earned) and fanned seven batters.
In all, Homles struck out 17, allowed just two earned runs and walked just six batters over her three appearances.
