Townley, Magana Receive Weekly Women's Soccer Honors

Farryn Townley of Cal State Northridge and Maria Magana of UC Davis claimed Big West Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, the final weekly honors of the 2010 season as both participants helped their teams to successful outcomes.

Townley's Game-Winner Sends Cal State Northridge To Big West Tournament

Farryn Townley (Palmdale, Calif./Highland HS) earned Big West Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors after her two goals helped Cal State Northridge secure a berth in the conference tournament and tie the school record for wins in a season.

Townley tallied her team-leading sixth and seventh goals of the season to aid the Matadors in victories over Cal State Fullerton (2-0) and Seattle (3-1).  Her goal against the Titans was the 11th game-winner of her career, tying her for eighth in Big West history.  The win also secured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Big West Tournament.

Against the Redhawks, Townley widened her grip on two CSUN career record for goals and points.  She scored in the ninth minute, upping her career totals to 22 goals and 48 points.  The 3-1 triumph also resulted in CSUN’s 12th victory, which tied the school’s top school mark.

Magana Records Shutout Against Long Beach State In First Career Start

UC Davis goalkeeper Maria Magana (San Bernardino, Calif./San Bernardino Valley College) held two opponents scoreless over 155 minutes and recorded 13 saves to garner Big West Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week kudos.

Magana played the second half and both overtimes of a scoreless draw against UC Riverside, making five saves.  She played the entire match and stopped eight shots in a 1-0 win and first career start against second place Big West team Long Beach State.  Magana made several great saves as her team was outshot 23-10 by the 49ers.
