UC Riverside's Seth Totten and UC Santa Barbara's Amanda Moreno claimed this week's edition of the cross country Men's and Women's Athlete of the Week awards, respectively.
Totten, a freshman from Newhall, Calif., was the first Highlander to cross the finish line at the Willamette Invitational, completing the 8K course in 24:22.60 for a 19th place finish overall. His time was a personal best and the fastest 8K showing by a true freshman in program history.
Meanwhile, Moreno, a senior from Escalon, Calif., ran an outstanding race at the Notre Dame Invitational. She finished in 11th overall with a time of 16:48, the best 5K time in the Big West this season. Moreno's time is also the best 5K effort by a league runner since former UC Riverside star Brenda Martinez ran a 16:52.10 at the UCR Invitational on September 29, 2007.
