UCI Sweeps Conference Matches, Weekly Honors In Big Week

UC Irvine is off to a 3-0-0 start in the Big West standings thanks to a pair of wins last week, but that's not the only sweep for the Anteaters as they also took home both of the men's soccer weekly awards.

Walker Ups League-Leading Goal Total After A Pair of UCI Wins

Amani Walker's consistent offensive pressure helped UC Irvine to a pair of league wins last week, netting him Big West Offensive Player of the Week honors.

The senior striker began his week with a goal in UCI's 3-0 road win over UC Davis, then added another score in the Anteaters' 2-1 victory over Cal Poly.

Walker has now scored in four of UC Irvine's past five games, and leads the conference in goals (7) and points (16).

Bailey Leads UCI Defensive Wall

Gray Bailey spearheaded a stout UC Irvine defense in a pair of league wins last week, leading to Big West Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Bailey led the Anteater defense to a shutout win on the road against UC Davis to start the week, limiting the Aggies to seven shots with none on frame. He also scored his fourth goal of the season in UCI’s ninth shutout in 12 outings.

Bailey then starred once again three days later against Cal Poly, helping the defense hold the Mustangs to a season-low tying nine shots in a 2-1 win.

Bailey’s efforts from his defender position limited UCI’s opponents to one goal, 16 shots and five shots on goal.
