Wise Earns Repeat Selection As Men's Basketball Player Of The Week

For the second week in a row, UC Irvine’s Eric Wise (Riverside, Calif./Riverside King HS) garnered the Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week selection. 

The 6-5 forward averaged 26.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game to help the Anteaters to a 1-1 week.

Wise pumped in a career-high 31 points on 13 of 21 shooting in a 78-68 loss at San Jose State on Dec. 28.  He added seven rebounds, two assists and two steals against the Spartans in 37 minutes of action.

The sophomore was instrumental in getting UCI off to a 1-0 start in conference play with a solid effort against UC Santa Barbara.  In the 57-55 home victory on Saturday, Wise collected a game-high 21 points while shooting an efficient 8 of 11 from the floor.  He scored 17 of his points in the second half on 6 of 7 shooting.  Wise added seven rebounds, three steals and two assists as the Anteaters won their Big West opener for the ninth time in the last 10 years.

For the week, Wise hit 65.6% (21 of 32) of his shots from the field.

Wise is tied for No. 4 in the Big West in scoring (15.8 ppg) and tied for No. 12 in rebounding (5.8 rpg).
